Road Run 2018

ROAD RUN 2018

Recently, my school organised a marathon on the 24th of February. I have a winning streak and getting a medal every year is a must and is also a goal for me. However, my mother wanted to go back to her hometown, which is very unfortunate for me as I have no choice but to break my winning streak.

For the road run competition this year, I trained hard, going out of my comfort-zone, pushing myself to run further and faster. I knew that I will be going up against people older and better than me so I trained every day, sometimes I even feel like vomiting and my legs felt like sticks, having no strength to even stand up, but I still keep going.

When my parents told where we will heading off to that weekend, my mind went blank. Fortunately, after begging my mom for what felt like hours, she finally decided to let me stay. My mom, knowing how dedicated I was to school sport activities, finally let me stay for the road run competition!

On the day that I long awaited and prepared for have finally arrived. The competitors sat together at the pavilion. It was a very awkward situation where we looked at each other, trying to guess who is their potential nemesis. A very long speech later, we walked to the starting line and waited for the gun to go off. A few minutes later, BOOM! And we all ran for the finish line...

In the end, I got the medal..... for 1st!! Everyone cheered and clapped, even the school bell rang for my victory! Then, I woke up to the alarm clock, as annoying as ever. After putting the baggages into the car, we set off to my parents' hometown...

A MALAYSIAN FESTIVAL

CHINESE NEW YEAR
Chinese New Year, also known as the spring festival in modern China, and one of the Lunar New Years in Asia, is an important Chinese festival celebrated at the turn of the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar. What I just said, I got from the wikipedia, for more information, you will have to continue reading this post about my experience and how I celebrate Chinese New Year.

Going back to my parents' hometown is what always keep me awake in bed, causing me to not have the sleep I need for the big day which is dinner with my relatives. What makes dinner with my relatives so special is that my aunts will be cooking and bringing their best dish to my grandparents' house to enjoy together. We shared jokes over dinner and the atmosphere was what kept me warm for the night.

The next day, my grandparents' prepared mee hoon soup for us and gave us ang pao (a red packet with money inside). After that, we visited friends and other relatives. About the ang pao, there is an interesting story behind it. In short, a devil was causing children to fall sick and die, to protect their grandson, two old folks ask for help from the 8 chinese gods. They then transform into coins and was asked to be put into a red packet and was hidden under the grandson's pillow. In the end, the grandson was saved.

Chinese New Year is not about the ang pao or the money ( unless you are broke like me ), in fact , it is about celebrating and having fun with your family and friends. Happy Chinese New Year!!!

THE SKETCH

THE PROCESS OF PREPARING FOR THE SKETCH
Flame is the name of the story my group was chosen to make a sketch of. The story was from China, mainly just about a woman name Ni Mei and her love life. In my opinion, it was just some typical woman trying to get back with her ex.

Preparing for the sketch was not a piece of cake, not when you have a teammate who seems to always be busy and is not able to make it to discussions. However, we pushed through this obstacle by creating a discord group. It was tough but with great amount of planning, writing scripts and preparing props, we were ready. That was what we thought for 2 weeks, we messed up quite a few times, and that was when we realised we did not practice our sketch with the entire team present.

It was not the best and perfect sketch I've done, but I learned a few valuable lessons. Every single member of the team is important and we would not be able to succeed without everyone working together. Moreover, practice makes perfect, with more practice we could have done a better job in presenting the sketch. Fortunately, my teammates were able to understand the story enough to be able to recover every time a mistake was made.

About the story, as I said, was from China. The main characters are Ni Mei, Jiang Bing and Hsu Peng. After reading the story, I learned that we should take care of our health as early as possible and that we should not do things during the last minute.
